Chapter Twelve
Lexi turned away from the information desk with a large envelope in her hand.
Scott looked at the time. âWeâll have to run to make this flight.â He stared at Dick.
The vampire rolled his eyes. âI said sorry.â
âSeriously, dude. How could you forget you had a dog?â
âHeâs my first dog ever. I didnât know I couldnât pop him under my arm and bring him along. Iâm sure Iâve seen the Kardashians do it.â
âThe guy said it depends on the airline,â she explained. âSome allow pets in the cabin. Unfortunately, weâre traveling with an airline that wants to throw dogs into the cargo hold.â
He was outraged. âOver my dead body.â
She snorted. âSo much is wrong with what you said.â
Scott shook his head. âPoor Jesús was halfway back to Palm Springs when you called him to collect Marcel. What did he say when you called the second time and said not to bother?â
Dick grimaced. âHeâd already arrived at the condo. I told him to stay there and drive back the next day. Do you think Marcelâs okay?â
They walked quickly as they spoke. âHeâs fine. He was asleep on the couch in front of the tv last time I checked.â
Lexi raised an eyebrow. âIt sounds like youâve expanded your dimensional pocket.â
âI put Marcelâs basket in there and stuff to keep him amused. Dolores put a few things in there for me this morning.â
They approached the check-in desk, which had two lines. One had a long line of customers and the other was empty with a Business and First-Class sign.
âWell, this is me. See you at the other end.â Dick walked ahead and down the left side to the counter.
Scott turned around, âWhereâs he going?â
She rolled her eyes. âHe booked himself into first class.â
âI suppose if you can afford it.â He shrugged.
Lexi folded her arms and looked at him. âWould you do it?â
He appeared to give the question serious thought before responding. âNo. Not if my companions couldnât afford it.â
âExactly.â She shook her head. âKeep watching. This will be fun.â I hope.
âOh no.â He looked sideways at her, his expression horrified. âWhat have you done?â
Dick removed his passport and boarding pass from the envelope and handed them over. The woman on the check-in desk gazed at the passport, then showed it to her colleague who glanced at him. Her lip twitched.
The vampire stiffened a little and adjusted his shoulders. He was obviously uncomfortable.
âThank you, Mr. Pick. Have a nice flight.â
âMistâ Thank you.â He took the documents and stepped away from the desk. His face unamused, he opened the passport and flicked his gaze to Lexi before he strode through the gate.
She guffawed.
Scott gaped. âMr. Pick?â
A smirk settled on her face as she waited.
Her companionâs jaw dropped. âOh, my God! Dick Pickâyou changed his name to dick pic?â
They moved forward in the line while she almost cried with laughter. âI needed that.â
He frowned, slid his passport out of his envelope, and paused nervously before he checked it. âShaun Green. That seems normal.â He exhaled sharply with relief.
